California is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact due to its higher training standards. While nurses cannot practice there under another state license, they can apply by endorsement. Processing times are very long - usually 10 to 16 weeks – and as long as six months. Time-consuming tasks can be done in advance of applying to the Board of Registered Nursing, include obtaining a passport-style photo and college transcripts.
